When I first heard of this, I thought great, finally they figured how to get rid of the BIOS. But as I read more about, EFI needs to go on to a partition of the hard drive and still needs to read of some sort of BIOS Chip. While I can see the protential of this, BIOS setting stored on CMOS/EPROM chip and EFI OS on the Hard Drive which you could easily upgrade, I have to wonder what the point? Say for example you can control the way you set you computer settings using a GUI like MS Windows, but something you do zaps EFI OS, how could you configure the computer then? I have Toshiba Satellite 1800-400 Laptop and I have been able to access BIOS settings from the OS for over 18 months and I have be able to do it from ME/ 2000/XP with no probs. The program Toshiba gives you is like a utility that lets you configure specific settings. And when the computers POSTs, the BIOS of the computer just reads whats on the BIOS chip or does some default BOOT tests.
