ASRock K7S8X (SIS746FX)
ASUS에서 ECS와 경쟁하기 위해 비밀리에 출자해서 설립한 자회사인 ASRock은 저렴한 가격과 내장된 기능들로 인해 꽤 성공적인것 같다. ASRock이 시장에 가세함으로써 우리는 시장 점유율을 둘러싼 또 다른 경쟁을 볼 수 있을 것이다.

ASRock의 K7 (애슬론 프로세서 지원) 메인보드들은 과거에 VIA 칩셋을 기반으로 하고 있었으나, ASRock K7S8X는 새로운 칩셋인 SIS746FX에 기반을 두고 있다. 만약 당신이SiS746FX의 레퍼런스 보드에 관한 우리의 리뷰를 읽었다면 이 칩셋이 낮은 가격으로 소비자에게 공급 될 경우 nForce2 DC DDR 칩셋과 좋은 경쟁상대라는 것을 알 수 있을 것이다. 사실, 레퍼런스 보드와 다른 SiS746메인보드의 벤치마크 결과들에 따르면 어플리케이션 수행 능력이나, 디스크 퍼포먼스에서 DC DDR 칩셋에 기반을 둔 Epox 8RDA+ 메인보드를 능가하는것이 확실하다.
K7S8X는 램의 지연시간을 약간 낮게 조절해주는것으로 평균 이상의 성능을 보이는것과 함께 안정적인 메인보드를 겨냥하듯 평범한 특징을 갖고 있다. RAS to CAS를 2-2-5로 설정해주는 중요한 설정들을 갖고 있지 않은 대신, 제조사측에서 최상의 호환성을 유지할 수 있도록 조절이 되어서 출시된다. 심지어 이 메인보드는 배수조절이나 전압 조절 옵션조차 가지고 있지 않으면서, FSB 조절 기능은 굉장하다. 100~248Mhz까지 1Mhz 단위로 조절할 수 있다.
이 보드는 일반 사용자들에게 충분할만한 다음 기능들을 지원한다.

ASrock, a subsidiary of ASUS hopes to secure the budget sector to compete head to head with ECS which was rather successful with its low cost integrated solutions. With ASROCK joining the market, we will see another head to head competition for the market share.

ASROCK s K7 boards were previously based on earlier VIA chipsets but this has now changed as ASROCK K7S8X is based on a new chipset - SIS 746FX. If you have read our Reference board review of the SiS746FX, it is a good competitor to the nForce2 DC DDR chipset if low cost is the deciding factor in your purchase. In fact, in certain benchmarks conducted on the Ref board and another SiS 746 board, it even overtakes the Epox 8RDA+ based on the DC DDR in desktop applications and disk performance.
K7S8X has standard features as it aims to be a stable board with above average performance with a slightly lowly tuned ram timings. As the board does not come with important settings like RAS to CAS (2-2-5), it all depends on the manufacturer to tune it for maximum compatibility. Although this board does not have a multiplier control and voltage adjustments, the FSB range is amazing. You can choose from 100 ~ 248 at 1Mhz steppings.
