The Swiftech MCX478 heat sinks carry on the tradition of their venerable predecessor, the MC462. With the right mounting hardware, these heavy-duty heat sinks are compatible with all AMD Socket A and Intel Pentium 4 processors. Choose the model that's right for you! Pick the MCX478 for use with the newest Pentium 4 processors (Northwood .13-micron CPU technology), or choose the MCX423 for use with the original Pentium 4 CPU.

For AMD Socket A users, the Swiftech MCX462 is the same as the MCX478 but without the special mounting hardware.

In less than a year, Swiftech's developments, through lengthy research into the MCX478 heat sink, bring the familiar all-copper base with a perfect micro-surface finish in an unprecendented design that is universally compatible with Intel Pentium 4 motherboards. Included with the MCX478 is basic mounting hardware that differentiates the unit from the MCX462, making it fully compatible with either type Pentium 4 processor.

The MCX478 heat sink inherits the same helicoid (spiral) pin technology first introduced a few months ago with the MCX370, and with measureable improvements: The diameter of the pins is 25 percent smaller, from 0.125" (3.17mm) to 0.094" (2.38mm), effectively increasing the number of pins from 261 to 371.

Furthermore, the micro-fin design of the helicoid pins generates micro-turbulence around them, improving heat dissipation by mixing radiated heat into the air more easily. The lighter, more numerous pins of the MCX478 heat sink account for at least a 50 percent increase in surface area over previous Swiftech models for greater heat dissipation and faster thermal transfer.

The new, bracketed fan-mounting system riveted to the base of the heat sink accommodates any standard 80mm fan of any thickness. The heat sink comes standard with a metal grill that covers a Delta Electronics 80x38mm FFB/SHE fan that pushes a healthy 68.5 CFM at moderate noise levels of 48.5 dBA. You also get cool, expandable sleeving on the two fan wires. One power wire connects to your power supply and the other connects to your motherboard for convenient RPM monitoring.

If you prefer, choose the bare heat sink option with motherboard mounting kit, and select the particular 80mm fan which best suits your desired level of cooling performance.

The MCX478 is designed exclusively for installation through the four holes that surround the CPU socket of the Socket 423/478, compliant with Intel specifications, with appropriate mounting hardware. Sidewinder Computers' standard restocking charges apply to all non-defective returned units. We encourage users to take note of this product's dimensions to ensure trouble-free installation.
